The Ozendyke was settled by Thomas and William Marshall, from Ryther, England. They named the house after Thomas' home in England. They farmed approximately 315 acres. They returned to England and gave the house to Annie Marie Marshall (Williams Daughter) who married James Bardin Palmer II in 1849. James Bardin Palmers brothers were Edward Palmer, 4th Premier and a father of Confederation, and Donald Palmer, who set aside 20 acres of land and created the village of Victoria. James and Annie Marie had 8 daughters and two sons. One of the daughters, Lucy was a teacher in Malpeque from 1887-1890 and briefly taught L.M. Montgomery! The women of the household were prolific diarists, and some of the diaries are held in the provincial archives in recognition of the valuable insight into farm life during the late 1800's. There has been an academic dissertation, a book, and numerous articles written about these diaries. Palmers Shipyard is nearby and the brigantine "Cumberland" was launched on November 4th 1834. First Sunday school in the area was hosted at Ozendyke, beginning August 20, 1821. There was chapel on site for Family worship, and Sunday school. John David and Henefa MacFarlane bought Ozendyke from the Palmer's in 1898. He built a waterwheel to bring water to the house in the early 1900's. They owned the first car in the area, a 1917 Ford. Henefa would host fellow church goers every Sunday at Ozendyke. She had the post office here for some years until 1913. She attended the sick, and brought many babies into the world..
